Claire Watt-Smith
, Founder, BoBelle

BoBelle London, http://www.bobelle.co.uk/ was founded by Claire Watt-Smith in 2008 at the age of 24. Having studied her Masters at University she became increasingly aware of ethical trading and corporate social responsibility. She always wanted to set up her own business and when she did she vowed to make it as ethical as possible. As such, BoBelle London incorporates high-end fashion with ethics. Ethical fashion needs to be desirable, elegant and hard-wearing; three elements that are synonymous with BoBelle London. Currently we use sumptuous eel skin leather; a unique leather which is a by-product of the food industry in Asia. Our core aim is to promote change in the purchasing habits of the public by offering ethical/recycled fashion of high quality and educating against the current culture of disposable fashion. We endeavour to promote fashion accessories that not only last but are of a classic design that can become a mainstay of ones wardrobe. The BoBelle London brand can be found in over 50 boutiques in the UK and Ireland, including Fenwick Brent Cross.

Judy Larbie
, Founder, Adzo Designs

Judy Larbie

In June 2004 Judy Larbie established her passion for beading and jewellery design, with jewellery pieces creating interest she immediately began turning this passion into a business in 2005. Judy is from Ghanaian heritage so decided that she would use her Ghanaian name to entitle the jewellery vision and later that year Adzo Designs the business was born. http://www.adzodesigns.com/

Judy manages a number of aspects of the business such as consultations, material selection, concept design and production so she really understands client’s requirements through paying great attention to detail and appreciating the process of development.

Over the past five years Adzo Designs has made a contribution to events great and small, supporting a number of charitable organisations to help raise awareness of the cause such as CafĂ© direct, SEEDA, VSO, RETHINK mental health and WATOTO. Additionally, there have been other triumphs such as bearing the honour of designing headpieces and tiaras for brides and the bridal party for a number of  clients from all nationalities and being featured in magazines such as Pride.

Noorin Khamisani, Founder, Outsider

Noorin Khamisani was born and raised in London, she graduated with a first class honours degree in Fashion Design.  Upon graduation she worked with designers such as Ann-Sofie Back, Jessica Ogden and Susan Cianciolo in New York.  Working with these avant –garde labels, which incorporated recycled garments/vintage fabrics had a huge and lasting influence on Noorin’s aesthetic.

Noorin went on to work for larger fashion companies including - Debenhams, Hobbs and Ted Baker.  The combination of working with creative designers and mainstream fashion production & buying experience led to a broad understanding of the fashion industry and its impact on the environment.  A year out travelling around Asia, visiting factories in Pakistan, India and Cambodia also added to a broader understanding of the impact of garment production on the lives of people involved in manufacturing.

Several years of researching sustainable fabrics and production methods combined with not being able to find ethically produced garments she wanted to buy, inspired Noorin to start Outsider http://www.outsiderfashion.com/.  A fashion label which believes style and quality should be equally important as ethical sourcing and production.

Outsider also strives to bring together up-and coming creative’s wherever possible, the first two seasons have resulted in exciting collaborations with graphic & print designers, photographers and stylists.

Jocelyn Whipple,
Owner/Founder, Element 23

Jocelyn Whipple grew up between Cailfornia (USA)  and Devon (UK) attending the then young Rudolf Steiner schools where her father taught. This lead on to a degree in product design (metal and textiles) at Liverpool Hope University. During this time Jocelyn began to focus on the concepts of sustainable materials for design, in particular for textiles, writing a dissertation on the subject and committing to the exclusive use of environmentally sound materials by graduation in 1999.

In January 2000 Jocelyn moved back to California to pursue a career in this emerging field and connected there with the handful of the new Eco Fashion brands, fabric wholesalers and media events, spearheading the movement. Between 2000 and 2005 she worked in many roles, such as bespoke design, event production and garment manufacturing, to promote, explore and expand the industry being developed specifically around eco / ethical fashion. After almost six years in San Francisco and Los Angeles and having seen the growth and increasing demand globally she moved back to the UK in 2005.

Over the last Three years Jocelyn has joined the UK ‘Ethical Fashion’ scene bringing new products and brands to the wholesale market. Launching Loop Fabric to wholesale textiles for fashion and furnishings as well as Element23 http://www.element23.co.uk/ a fashion agency representing some of the leading ethical/eco brands now available. With over ten years practical industry experience, and specialist knowledge of the complex and continually developing definitions of “eco’ and ‘ethical’ textiles and fashion Jocelyn is positioned to progress the expansion and availability of more conscious consumer and manufacturing choices in this exciting arena.
